Raffles City Marks 40 Years: I.M. Pei's 45-Degree Design Vision
Raffles City is celebrating its 40th anniversary by looking back at the stories that shaped the landmark. At the heart of its identity is the vision of architect I.M. Pei, who designed the complex to reveal a different perspective from every angle.
Pei achieved this by rotating the entire complex by 45 degrees, a decision that set the development apart from the surrounding city grid. The approach gave the towers and podium a distinct orientation within the urban landscape, making the building recognisable from multiple vantage points across Singapore.
As part of the 40th anniversary commemoration, Raffles City is revisiting the milestones and design decisions behind the landmark shoppers know today. The celebration honours both the architecture and the building's place in the city's history.
